I have heard and personally experienced difficulty running defrag in Windows 98.
I recommend using WinME Defrag. You will be amazed at the difference.
You can download it here.
- Download the file.
- Double click on the download.
- Make note of the path to where the files will be unzipped.
- Open the folder containing the unzipped files.
- Click on install.bat
This will rename your current version of defrag.exe to defrag.old and place the new defrag.exe into the correct folder.

If you wish to have the original Win98 defrag back go to the folder which contains install.bat and click on uninstall.bat.
